Colourful fabrics from the Subcontinent and beyond

Noteworthy for: The textile souk is part of the old trading centre in Bur Dubai, which is filled with quality fabrics and pashminas in vibrant colours and patterns.

Word to the wise: Prices are negotiable, so be sure to bargain for items in the souk.

Buying off-the-rack in Dubai can be pricey, however having your threads custom-made is often extraordinarily reasonable. Bur Dubai and Satwa house some of the best tailors around (most are exports from the subcontinent).

Though many tend to stock their own fabrics, the truly luscious textiles can only be procured in Bastakiya’s ever colourful Textile Souk. Silks, brocades, cottons; you name it, they’ve got it by the yard. Haggling is expected, and only a fool would agree to pay the first price quoted. Some gentle bartering is worth a one-of-a-kind frock.
