Cellar Jazz Club
Vancouver's premier jazz venue
Noteworthy for: The club attracts high calibre performers - everyone from Scott Hamilton and Fathead Newman to Ed Thigpen and Tom Harrell have played here.
Word to the wise: There's a minimum cover charge per person for food and drink - CAD 10 on weeknights and CAD 15 on weekends.
For a smooth night out, head to this Kitsilano jazz bar and sway to a bit of classic guitar or smokin' sax. A labor of love for the club's founder and all-round Vancouver legend, Cory Weeds, this club quickly established itself on the Canadian jazz scene and is always busy. There's a good food menu, with Thai, Italian and Mexican influences, plus an impressive whiskey selection and some fun, jazz-themed cocktails.
This relatively inexpensive joint is a great place to come and hear some seriously talented artists growl and pluck their way through a host of jazz standards and new material. Cellar Jazz also has its own record label, and you can buy CDs from the box office on your way out. As weekend nights get busy, reserving ahead is highly recommended.
