Canada Place
Vancouver's beating heart of culture, hospitality and entertainment
Noteworthy for: Canada Place was the main press centre during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Talk of the town: The 'Christmas At Canada Place' extravaganza is an unmissable car crash of unashamed consumerism and kitsch pageantry.
A vibrant mix of offices, entertainment space, exhibitions, shops, bars, restaurants and a cruise ship terminal, Canada Place is Vancouver's primary meeting place. This is where all the city's major events are held, from Canada Day celebrations to Remembrance Day parades, concerts, rallies, and anything involving fireworks.
Constructed for Expo 86, Canada Place overlooks the harbour - look for the five huge sails on the roof which are illuminated every evening. The building houses the Pan Pacific Hotel, the Vancouver Convention Centre and the World Trade Centre. There's also a brilliant Welcome Centre inside the Main Plaza, which keeps visitors bang up to date on what's happening in Vancouver, so it's a worthwhile first stop on your city tour.
