World class opera and monumental architecture

Word to the wise: Look out for Monica Bonvicini's work 'She Lies', a giant floating sculpture of steel and glass that's permanently installed in front of the Opera House.

Blurring the lines between sea, land and sky – and between art and everyday life - Oslo's Opera House is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture. Home of the Norwegian Opera and Ballet, Norway's largest performing arts institution, it contains three spaces for opera, ballet and classical concerts as well as various bars and restaurants.

Outside, a vast marble ramp - known as "the carpet" - leads visitors on to the roof to enjoy panoramic views of the city and open-air performances. The broad programme features traditional European opera, ballet and classical concerts alongside contemporary dance and musical theatre.
