Baroque palace restored to its former glory

Word to the wise: There are several galleries and artist workshops worth checking out within a few metres of the Palais doorstep on Rue Droite.

Over a century of neglect had allowed the former home of the noble Lascaris-Vintimille family to quietly deteriorate behind its opulent facade. Fortunately, the City of Nice stepped in during the 40s to restore this lavish example of Genoese baroque architecture; now classified a historical monument.

Located in the heart of Vieux Nice, the three floors of the elaborately-frescoed Palais are decorated with Flemish tapestries, religious paintings and an intriguing collection of antique musical instruments. Despite its grand name, the Palais is quite small - you won't need more than 30 minutes to explore this free attraction. Don't miss the 18th century pharmacy on the ground floor.
