A peaceful oasis amid a hectic city
Talk of the town: The park's pedestrian pathways stretch for a combined total of 58 miles.
Word to the wise: During the hot summer, take a swim at Lasker Pool, located in the middle of the Park between 108th and 109th Streets.
How big is Central Park? Really big - nearly twice the size of Monaco, in fact. With rolling green fields, rocky bluffs, lush woods, lakes and reservoirs, the park is a refreshing counterbalance to life in the concrete jungle. Join the locals escaping the grind by participating in innumerable diversions like tai chi, jogging, rollerblading, cycling, soccer, napping or simply enjoying nature.
At the Loeb Boathouse, enjoy a lakeside meal and cocktails, rent a bike or borrow a rowboat (available from April until October). Strawberry Field is a small park-within-a-park near West 72nd Street, constructed in honor of the late John Lennon. A bit further uptown is the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, a body of water ringed by pink rhododendrons and a popular jogging path.
