Montréal's main performance centre
Noteworthy for: The preeminent performing arts centre in Montréal, the Place des Arts forms the heart of the city's Quartier des Spectacles.
Place des Arts is a massive performance space, consisting of five theatres that vary in capacity. This flexibility allows for performances of all sizes to be staged, from music gigs to theatrical performances and film screenings. It is the official venue for Montréal's three leading classical companies: the Montréal Symphony Orchestra, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and the Opéra de Montréal.
Aside from the theatres, the complex is also home to the Museum of Contemporary Arts, as well as a number of shops and restaurants. The outdoor promenade is popular among visitors for its fountains, and welcomes massive crowds during summer arts festivals. Place des Arts is at the centre of the city's plans to transform the entire district into an arts and entertainment hub, with at least six more art venues to be added to the current nine.
