A tram ride through Old Lisbon
Word to the wise: This one-car tram can get pretty crowded on the weekend, and during the summer. But hey, getting packed in like sardines is a great way to make new friends.
Tram 28 (Electrico 28) will roll you up and down Lisbon’s steep hills, and cross through some of the city’s most notable areas. The tram itself is a classic yellow trolley car, and it travels the best routes in town, including Alfama, the Feira da Ladra (flea market), Baixa-Chiado, Bairro Alto as well as passing by many other interesting destinations.
One of the delights of riding the tram is the easy access it provides to Lisbon’s historical sites and neighbourhoods (simply hop on and hop off), as well as how it winds through the narrow streets in the old quarter, snaking in and out of Lisbon’s varying elevations. All in all, it’s a wonderful way to get acquainted with the city.
