Authentic homemade liqueurs
Tipple of choice: The heady scent of the bright red rose liqueur makes it the ideal partner for a sweet Polish pastry.
Polish families have been making liqueurs in their own homes for ever, but visitors to the country rarely get to sample them.
That's where Szambelan comes in. It sells traditional homemade liqueurs in all kinds of colours and flavours – there's quince, honey, raspberry, blackcurrant and many more. Locals simply bring along an empty bottle and fill it up with their favourite - but for a unique gift choose one of the more ornate bottle designs (an angel, perhaps, or a high-heeled shoe) and have it wrapped.
