Mother India’s Café
Indian delicacies with an Iberian twist
Word to the wise: This restaurant is extremely popular in the evenings, so either book a table in advance or make sure you’re here by 6.30pm at the latest.
There are literally dozens of Indian restaurants in Edinburgh, but Mother India’s is frequently cited amongst the best, especially for its innovative take on Indian cuisine. This award-winning eatery has taken the Spanish concept of tapas and applied it to their Indian menu - so all the dishes are small, fresh and designed for sharing. They also happen to be delicious.
Established dishes like butter chicken and lamb curry are joined by newcomers like baked okra with green chilli and haddock with ginger and peas – suiting both traditionalists and for more adventurous diners.
