Flawless Michelin-starred cuisine in the heart of Leith
Noteworthy for: The Scottish chef Martin Wishart gave Edinburgh its first Michelin star with this restaurant, and was voted UK Chef of the year by the AA guide in 2011.
Talk of the town: In his portfolio, he also has a cook school, a second Michelin-starred restaurant at Cameron House and The Honours, a highly-lauded brasserie in the New Town (58a North Castle Street).
One of the UK’s most acclaimed dining venues, having been awarded one Michelin star and four AA rosettes to date, Martin Wishart’s eponymous restaurant offers the finest French cuisine with the freshest Scottish ingredients. A stunning blend of the traditional and the contemporary, the menu has a variety of seasonal gourmet dishes presented with just enough flair to make it interesting, rather than annoying.
The dining room was revamped in 2012, brightening it up so it feels less like a stuffy institution and more like the buzzy restaurant it is, though this is hardly a casual option what with white tablecloths and an army of attentive waiters.
