The Queen Of Tarts

Delightful cakes near Dublin Castle

Popular plate: It's impossible to choose between the raspberry and chocolate scones; although vast, they're so good you might just eat both.

Cake stands groaning with freshly made treats are a sight to gladden even the stoniest of hearts, so its no surprise that this vintage-style cafe on Dame Street has such a convivial atmosphere.

Sisters Yvonne and Regina Fallon both trained as pastry chefs in New York before opening the Queen of Tarts in 1998, and produce a range of superlative baked goods - some savoury, but mainly sweet - for a crowd of loyal locals and tourist trade. Such is demand, the sisters have opened a second branch up the road on Cork Hill, but do try and squeeze into the more charming original.
