The Belgian Comic Strip Centre
A treasure trove of Belgium's beloved art form in a Horta-designed building
Word to the wise: True comic fans will love the library on the ground floor, which contains thousands of comics - pick a couple and take them to the comfy reading room next door.
Both young and old will enjoy this museum dedicated to what Belgians call the 'Ninth Art'. Here, you will come face to face with Belgium's most famous comic strip character, Tintin, along with the Smurfs, Asterix and Obelix, and thousands more.
Comics are a large and serious business in Belgium and many Belgians born after World War II have grown up with the art form, so an important part of the country's cultural history is contained within the walls of the Belgian Comic Strip Centre. And what walls they are - the building itself, a restored Horta-designed Art Nouveau building, is worth a visit alone.
A comic strip oasis awaits, with a collection of over 40,000 titles in more than 20 languages, and permanent exhibitions that tell the story of the birth of the comic and how a comic is produced, as well as displays of original sketches and studies by top artists.
