Le Balmoral

Kitsch 50s American diner

Popular plate: The Le Royal Megaburger offers just what it promises, a massive burger topped with cheese, bacon and mushrooms and served with giant potato wedges.

An American diner may not be your first port of call when in Brussels but their inexpensive hearty breakfasts and burgers are just the thing the morning after one too many Belgian beers and their thick milkshakes are first-class fuel to pep you up for a mammoth day of shopping or sightseeing.

With its bubblegum pink, bright yellow and turquoise walls, booths and checked floor, neon signs and big pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Betty Boop, Le Balmoral is unashamedly kitsch and its menu follows suit. Think hamburgers, club sandwiches, huge portions of fries, and an enormous dessert menu, including cheesecake, ice cream sundaes and brownies.
