Nordic Embassies
A masterpiece of modern Nordic architecture
Word to the wise: This is the best place in Berlin to find Nordic beers - in the third floor canteen.
Housing the diplomatic headquarters of Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland, this complex is a design-lover's delight. The separate buildings are joined seamlessly together from the outside by a sheath of copper, symbolising their unity whilst, behind in the courtyard, each individual embassy is deliberately different in design, yet are all impressive, towering structures of floor-to-ceiling glass and endless clean lines.
There is a sixth building completing the complex - a communal canteen and auditorium, open to the public at certain points during the day, although the best time to come is at night, when the building illuminates with thousands of neon lights and strobes that often change colour at regular, jaw-dropping intervals.
