Discover the spiritual heart of the nation through its waterways
Word to the wise: As you'll be visiting numerous places of worship on this trip, remember to keep your knees and shoulders covered for the duration.
Taking you gliding down the Chao Phraya River and into the city's canal system on a traditional long tail boat, the Temple and River of Kings Tour gives a glimpse of Bangkok away from her chaotic roads and modern high-rises.
Over the years and with an increased need for speedy transport, many of the khlongs (as the canals are known locally) have been paved over to make way for an escalating number of cars and motorbikes. But thankfully, the Thornburi area still maintains a fairly elaborate canal system, allowing you to sample local life and to witness the day-to-day rituals of the people who still live by the water's edge.
The tour winds up at some of the city's spiritual big-hitters, stopping at Wat Po before heading to the Grand Palace complex where you can meander through dazzling temples and pay respects to the Emerald Buddha.
