Come play backgammon with the Plaka locals
Noteworthy for: This traditional cafe still retains that rare village atmosphere where everyone seems to know each other.
Word to the wise: It can be hard to spot with the sign in Greek; look for the logo of a ship on the awning.
This somewhat ramshackle little café has somehow escaped the onslaught of tourism despite it's central Plaka location. Maybe it’s the locals and students who frequent it that have refused to give up their territory, which has kept it so charming.
Located on the railway next to the Agora, take a seat at one of the little tables scattered up the hillside under the shade of the giant plane tree, and play some backgammon as you enjoy the coffee. By night people swap their frappes for ouzo soaked up with some simple Greek mezedes.
