Word to the wise: Respect for this religious monument is important in Abu Dhabi, so be sure to wear conservative clothing such as pants and loose clothing. Headscarfs are available for women at the mosque.
The Sheikh Zayed mosque is a spectacular religious icon in the city. It is an absolutely amazing building that displays what mankind can create. Although the exterior is impressive, you'll really get a feel for the tradition and beauty of this mosque by entering into the outer areas and prayer halls.
This magnificent mosque has over 82 domes, one of them the biggest in the world in a mosque. The Sheikh Zayed mosque can accommodate over 40,000 worshipers at one time. It also holds two other world records: the largest Persian carpet as well as the world’s largest chandelier (10x15 meters).
Entrance to the mosque is allowed for non-Muslims all days, except Friday mornings, free of charge. There is a good public tour with local guides at 10am, 11am, 5pm.
