Wanderlust

Singapore

Situated right in the funky Little India neigbourhood, the Wanderlust offers a welcome contrast to Singapore’s rather conservative hotel scene. The four floors of this boutique hotel have each been designed by different design firms, and uniformity was clearly not part of the job description. With daring styles varying from neon riot to live-in installation art, this is not accommodation for the conservative traveller. But for those wishing to expand the edges of their comfort zones, staying at the Wanderlust will be a real experience.

101 Hotel

Reykjavik, Iceland

Named after Reykjavik's most fashionable postal code, this contemporary-style boutique hotel is the given choice for any design-craving traveller visiting the Icelandic capital this Spring. Housed in what used to be the home of the Social Democratic party, bureaucracy has now been replaced with creativity. The 21st century designs are tastefully minimalistic in black and white, with open plans and sleek Nordic furniture. A glass roof over the lounge affords a view of a permanent mural installation, and the 101 Gallery shows rotating exhibitions of works by top Icelandic artists.
