Team San Francisco
Local Expert and Writer
Sara Bernard is a former staff writer and multimedia
producer for the George Lucas Educational Foundation, now a San Francisco-based
freelance writer and globetrotter. She’s traveled in Southeast Asia, Europe,
Central and South America, New Zealand, Australia, and across the United
States, but has called the Bay Area home for over fifteen years. San
Francisco’s stunning natural landscape and architecture, its affinity for
farm-to-table cuisine, and the audacious and creative culture of is
residents are what keeps her coming back. Sara has written for Wired, VIA, Afar, Ode,
and Rosebud, among other
publications, and also produces radio stories for San Francisco’s KALW 91.7 FM.
One of Julie’s favorite trips is driving up the California Coast from Los Angeles, with San Francisco being the grand finale. Sampling local cuisine is her favorite pastime in San Francisco, and when she’s not dining at the Slanted Door or gazing at the city from the Top of the Mark, you might find her in search of the Tamale Lady in the Mission District.
Carly Schwartz is founding editor of The Huffington Post's San Francisco section. Born in San Francisco, but raised on the East Coast, she's thrilled to have returned, and now have an everyday excuse to explore her favorite city in the world.
Guide Editor and travel writer Tyler Wetherall was born in San Francisco, and whatever end of the world she ends up in, she always returns once a year. Some things never change: the first impact of those red arches of the Golden Gate Bridge; the beauty of the Victorian architecture; and the ache in your legs from walking up the many hills. But, others change fast. It's fighting for the title of foodie capital of California dedicated to sustainable and locally sourced produce, and, ever forward-thinking, there is always a new fad to try out, whether it's pop-up shoe shops or refreshingly 'un-hip' old-school eateries.
